How to Create a Bandwidth Policy and Assign to a Site

Bandwidth Policies are a method of controlling the bandwidth used for Audio and Video calls within Lync at specific sites.

Create a New Bandwidth Policy

  • Open up the Lync Control Panel and browse to Network Configuration
  • Click on the Policy Profile tab

  • Click on New and fill in the required settings
  • (This example was set to prevent all audio and video which is why settings are set to the minimums)

NOTE* The lowest option for Audio Session Limit is 40 kbps and Video Session Limit is 100 kbps

  • Click Commit and verify the new policy is in the list

 

Alternatively you can use Lync Management Shell to create and assign a bandwidth policy. To do so do the following:

  • Open Lync Management Shell
  • To create the policy run the following command (This creates the same policy as shown above)

New-CsNetworkBandwidthPolicyProfile -Identity “A0_V0” -Description “A0_V0” -AudioBWLimit 0 -AudioBWSessionLimit 40 -VideoBWLimit 0 -VideoBWSessionLimit 100

Assign a Bandwidth Policy to a Site

  • Open up the Lync Control Panel and browse to Network Configuration
  • Click on the Site tab
  • Double click on the site you want to modify the policy of

  • Click on the Bandwidth Policy drop down and select the policy you want to assign

  • Click Commit

Alternatively you can use Lync Management Shell to assign a bandwidth policy to a network site. To do so do the following:

  • Open Lync Management Shell
  • To assign the policy run the following command (This assigns the same policy as shown above)

Set-CsNetworkInterSitePolicy -Identity IN51 -BWPolicyProfileID A0_V0
